Rhododendron 'Kotuku'

Family: Ericaceae (Heath)
Synonym: Rhododendron maddenii 'Virginale'
Comments: Habit: Dense bushy and upright shrub to 4m.
Foliage: Healthy dark glossy leaves with brown scales below.
Flowers: Soft pink buds open into umbels of 4-5 large open funnels, clear white, flushed purple red in bud, lighter when open, yellow throat, strongly scented. November.
History: Selection from R. maddenii, distributed from Dunedin Botanic Garden in 1966 to NZRA Conference in 1966 under the unacceptable name of R. maddenii 'Virginale'.
