Family: Ericaceae (Heath)
Synonym: Rhododendron Ivery's Scarlet × arboreum 'Kermesinum' 'Kaponga'
Life form: Shrub - evergreen
Comments: Habit: A vigorous upright dense shrub to small tree, growing to approximately 2m in 10 years.
Foliage: Narrow elliptic light green leaves, silvery below.
Flowers: Very compact, full, large umbels of funnel shaped flowers, rich, bright, clear, cherry red in early spring. A glowing shrub in full flower.
History: Raised by Bernie Hollard, Kaponga, NZ, in early 1950's.
Cultivation information: Very tough and grows well in most parts of New Zealand, available from rhododendron nurseries.
