Foliage: Oblong to oblong-elliptic deciduous leaves, 5-11cm long by 1.8-3.5cm wide. The upper surface is dark green with a covering of soft hairs. The underside is pale green with ahirs only on the midrib.
Flowers: 6-12 broadly funnel-shaped flowers opeing before the leaves appear in spring. The colour rangbe is variable -orange, yellow,salmon-red or brick-red.
