Rhododendron 'Point Defiance'

Family: Ericaceae (Heath)
Comments: Habit: Large wide spreading shrub with thick stems, 3m x 4m.
Foliage: Large elliptic leaves, matt green, thick and leathery, 180 x 75mm.
Flowers: Umbel of 15-17 tall and compact wide funnels, red in bud opening white with red band on lobes and fading to almost white, calyx green and 13mm long. November flowering at Pukeiti.
History: Cross by Halfdan Lem, Seattle, USA. Part of the Walloper Group which includes Pink Walloper and Lem's Monarch.
