Habit: Shrub to 1.7m.
Foliage: Dark, glossy green, greyish scales below.
Flowers: White blushed pink or pale yellow, large and fragrant.
Note: Very variable plants with many species names now reduced to two subspecies - maddenii and crassum. R. maddenii ssp. maddenii is the western cline of the two and has smaller, narrower leaves and the capsules are round topped, not flattened.
